I can't really fully empathize with any sides on this. A huge part of Sea Shepherd is based on ecoterrorism, constant harassment and marketing/publicity/propaganda. They often use their ngo money to make the lives of people who are trying to work for minimum wage even more miserable. Their tactics have several times put the lives of people in danger, ramming boats and doing all sorts of crap - that's why people in the boat got that type of response. On the other hand, it's obvious that french fishing boats are also responsible for the massive die off of dolphins. And protection laws are often extremely ineffective, because protected areas and species are too hard to cover - it's too big an area for any single agency to protect. Putting cameras in all fishing boats is both unreasonable and bad in itself, sorry for proponents. It is invasion of privacy, no one wants to have a camera pointed at them 24/7 while they are working, and it is a presumption of criminal behaviour. No one should be forced to produce evidence against themselves while working. This sets legal precedents for the government to install cameras on any private businesses or endeavors they (or ngos) think have a possibility of criminal behaviour somehow - it's not how these things get solved. What ngos like Sea Shepherd and fishermen association should do is just get together and see if there isn't a compromise to be made. Help fund other type of gear, collaborate, do something other than keep trying to fight each other at every opportunity.
