I’m the opposite. I don’t appreciate the amount of effort. It’s wasted productivity. The same product could be done cheaper and faster and more human potential could be spent on doing other things and not getting back pain.

@simonpeterdebbarma , that’s neither most accurate nor most efficient. First of all, we don’t know what genes influence colour of fur in what way. Second of all, even if we knew, they won’t say ‘the fur is Pantone number X’, it will be a complicated mixture of what proteins, enzymes etc. are produced in what proportions that you’d have to decode and interpret as a colour. Thirdly, DNA is not the only thing that influences the colour; how the dog was brought up or what were environmental conditions will influence it as well. Lastly, taking multiple photos of the dog is definitely much more efficient.

@Soham Sharma, how is any of that relevant? I don’t care how a product is made or how long it took to finish. I’m interested in final result. If you’re unable to automate the production where others have succeeded, it’s your problem; not mine.

@Soham Sharma, many craftsmen came and gone throughout the history. Why is rug making supposed to be special? If the same work can be done more efficiently, there’s no reason to waste human potential (and health as been alluded in the video) on it. ‘might as well drink sewage water claimed to be clean if you're interested in the end product only!’ – In your analogy, if I’m interested in end product, I’m interested in clean water. I don’t care if it’s handmade or made by a machine. If it’s clean, I’m gonna choose the cheapest option. You present a false dichotomy where the only two choices are bad quality carpets created by machines and handmade Persian ones. That, however, is not true. You can buy rugs which don’t require years of human labour at various price points and qualities.

@Soham Sharma, it’s interesting how you accuse me of throwing insults and ridicule when it’s you who consistently consistently use personal attacks in your responses. You’re very first comment in this thread was calling OOFOrange an idiot for not wanting to buy a rug for thousand dollars. And now you’re saying that no one is forcing me to purchase them? So which is it? Hypocrite much? By the way, you’re claim than handmade rugs lack defects is absurdly wrong. I’ll just leave it with a challenge for you to produce a reputable source which claims that to be true. As for tradition, yeah, I don’t have a sense for tradition if it means people are paid poorly while developing back pain.

How would you know if what you’re buying is handmade? Why is that a quality you’re looking for in a rug?
1
@daniyalasif1351 , that has nothing to do with it being handmade.
1
@theemperor1379 , that wasn’t the question.
1
@theemperor1379 , to a question no one asked.
1
@theemperor1379 , don’t know what you’re aunt asked, but I asked how OP would know. Not how an Iranian who had knowledge in this stuff would know.
1
@theemperor1379 , the subject is OP expressing desire to buy a handmade carpet. The question is how would they know a difference between a high quality machine-made and a handmade rug. It seems that according to you, the answer is that they need to be an expert in the field to be able to tell. In which case, vast majority of people won’t experience any difference thus buying such a rug is a waste of money if all you want is a carpet.
