Something crazy to me is that things like good bikes and buses are often hand in hand with tourism, tourists want to a) get around b) be around locals c) Enjoy the weather. There really isn't an explanation for this except "We 'ended' racism so we really have to double down on classism and make it as hard as possible for anything to change". It's a horror concepts like these, "Cars are for rich people, if I'm not driving I'm worthless", become so internalized to a culutre. Obviously a global phenomenon but I think it does hit traditionally marginalized groups harder because humans naturally want to be seen as equal.

I think this also has something to do with undereating being immediately identified as a mental illness. Nobody watches a video of a staving child in X impoverished country and thinks "they look good". People definitely snicker and are rude about undereating, but not generally to your face (in my experience). Being overweight on the other hand is seen as a simple lack of willpower, "we'd all be far if we didn't have better self control". It's explicitly disconnected from mental health and eating disorders in the mind of society, yes it's generally driven by a mental health issue but you can be sure the people commenting won't believe that. Anyone can imagine themselves getting fat. And I think that makes it a scarier thing you want to not conceptualize, driving hatred, and what to believe is avoidable if you are careful, driving lack of acceptance. No one thinks "I might accidentally drop 40 pounds and be near death", which allows them to accept if something is happening, it's not a point of ridicule..

While I appreciate and identify with your struggles around body acceptance, I think there is an important distinction around intermittent fasting and diet choices in general being physically healthy and mental health issue driving unhealthy behavior. While making choices around social interactions for following dietary practices is difficult, and can definitely be taken to unhealthy degrees, society in general has an incredibly unhealthy relationship with food. And the unhealthy relationship of the majority doesn't mean you're unhealthy in not following it. People are out there thinking donuts are breakfast. And while conflating fat and unhealthy is unfair and incorrect, that doesn't mean conditions like insulin resistance are not driven by preventable actions, in many cases at least.

Those statues are called Venuses, but they are not of Venus and we actually don't know the context in their creation.
