I have seen studies that, due to the number and size of slums in India and Pakistan, the amount of soot and black carbon released in a nuclear war between the two would actually be highly deviating in terms of nuclear winter. And due to the low yield of their mainly fission weapons the fallout would likewise be devastating.

My fear of nuclear war is our total inability to rebuild. There are no more coal deposits without removing mountains, or iron and copper viens at the surface, or even oil without SAGD or off shore platforms. We've used all the easy to access resources, and if our infrastructure crumbles for a decade it will never be rebuilt.

@drunkenpumpkins7401 interesting, although I would be surprised if you had similar examples for iron or copper?

@vincentvalerian8716 I don't think they are as easy to purify as you're suggesting. And materials like magnets needed for wind or the very complex processes in solar would be hard to return to. Renewables are only just being developed exactly because they are technically complex and require globalized supply chains integrated processing. Hydro is a bit of an exception but it's also relatively limited and still requires a lot oflf cement in many cases, and a lot of coal to produce that

@lolmao500 You are very wrong about the oil situation. The Saudis and Iran sure. I'd love to see you reliably get all your oil from the Persian Gulf if the US navy stopped existing though. The rest of the places you named are not easy. Canada lol, good luck with your bitumen.

@Admiral-General_Aladeen it's the very particular conditions of decades of wood piled up in Dozens of city's by a billion people that create the risk. My understanding is it's not the nuclear weapons per se, but the effect of setting several of the earth's largest and most slummed cities on fire simultaneously. The release of ash and soot is what is so potentially dangerous in terms of blocking sun. Although, given the lower quality of the nukes involved, the updraft created would contain significant radioactive fallout in the form of heavy metals.

@TuhljinTampergauge not in a form that is accessible for a collapsed society though. Horizontal drilling is a new and complex technology. There are very few places you can drill a hole and have oil come out. Also, I'm not sure that your claim is correct.

@algorithmgeneratedanimegir1286 some technologies advanced, particularly those related to iron working. Many areas did revert in technical complexity and certainly things that required long distance trade reduced. The Bronze age collapse on the other hand did see the collapse and widescale technological loss..

@evancourtney7746 I'm not refering to dust from the exposion I'm referring to the soot from the subsequent fires caused by air bursts spreading across India's and Pakistans sprawling and largely wooden slums.

@robertbobbypelletreaujr2173 it's remarkable to me this doesn't seem to have happened when the USSR fell apart. The number of countries to come out of it, some like Ukraine having every reason to want them for the political power or Lithuania to ensure they don't get invaded, or Turkmenistan to resell, and none seeming to have done so is incredible. At the same time, the gross government corruption, between oligarchs stealing anything of value and generals selling it to them, and nothing displaced in movement. Likewise, South Africa got rid of all of them before handing over power. I'm not suggesting that means a collapsed America will return all nukes to the independent nation of New England, but it's very interesting. Clearly people takes nukes is taken seriously even in a worse case scenario. I'm not sure the risk of aging weapons. I think the triggers tend to break first, meaning they are not a sudden boom risk, more of a dirty bomb risk if just forgten. But I may be wrong.

@spikeshartell4675 it's not the fallout alone, it's the massive amount of wooden slums that surround the cities and that the majority of the year is very dry. The ash of the actual cities and surrounding areas a billion people live in is what studies suggest could cause harm. Also, what made you see this video? In the past two days it seems people are watching it again.
