I believe this is still relativant to anyone who is a vegan. Yes you can probably get enough protein just eating rice because the large amount will cancel the low DAAS score, but you will still fail to adsorb a large amount of the protein due to the unbalanced amino acids. Theres a reasonable amount of research showing you don't want to much protein entering your large intestine because your micro biome produces inflamitory chemical. At the same time, the cure for low protein here is just "Eat more high carb foods" which isn't great on its own. I'm not saying you can get obese eating lentils but white rice has a pretty high glucose index. As a person who is largely plant based, I still try to balance, and not only is it not hard but also my food tastes better.
