Importantly, my understanding is that heavy oilsands emissions would be counted toward national emissions, and then a carbon tax rate based on the national emissions would be applied to all Canadian exports. So high oilsands emissions will increase the price of all Canadian goods. And also, a carbon tax won't be accepted as lowering the tariff, it will only be valuable in as much it reduces national emissions

There will definitely be investment into Carbon Capture, which will be a long term industry we are an early mover in. But to decarbonize the oilsands, the answer has to be SMRs.

@WilsonCC Carbon capture will be an important technology in decarbonizimg other sectors. Our entire economy isn't going to be investment in renewables. We need to invest in more than domestic electrical supply. But there isn't some limit to investing. Our ability to attract renewables investment isn't reduced by carbon capture.

@WilsonCC Carbon Capture will be an important technology for a number of industries. We are using the oilsands as a launchpad industry so that we can be a leader in the technology. But as I said, ultimately it will not be the solution to Hydrocarbon production emissions. Investments encourage more investment, it doesn't limit it. There is no negative impact on renewables in doing this - the political situation is clearly the opposite, and Alberta is agreeing to renewable investment in exchange for oilsands investment.
