I wouldn't call Iran's relationship excellent, and only around 1M bbl/d can reach the red sea via pipeline (I believe)

I think 5 regional grids plays better (more when you consider the Territories) Alberta - BC Sask - Manitoba (Manitoba also connected to the West coast Nunavut, and likely tying in The Northwest Territories with a loop from Hay River to Yellowknife (Which would connect to Uranium City in Sask, but Northern Sask is much more connected to Manitoba than the rest of Saskatchewan) Southern Ontario Quebec & Labrador (and the Ottawa Valley) And Maritimes NewFoundland (island) connects to both Martimes and Labrador. And you would probably also have some connections at New Brunswick -Quebec I don't see a real advantage in large scale Sask-Alberta interconnection. Sask is a much smaller demand center, and the renewables correlate. I think connecting along the existing transmission line from Saskatoon to Le Pas in Manitoba would provide ample hydro - wind trade between the two. Maybe its possible to have some fun and build a Bipole to the ring of fire from Manitoba, and from there Hogh Voltage AC lines could be built to Moosnee. And that could be done from the Quebec side as well, and the existing powerlines to Southern Ontario uprated. That would be the making of a true national grid; but I think its likely far more expensive than just doing SMRs and storage.
