  1. I'm pretty sure the idea is just to shore up control of Ukrainian controled Territory in Russia. When Trump comes in to Office, Ukraine will have to play the part of the willong negotiater to continue getting aid. But Ukraine also needs the war to continue if its going to win in a meaningful sense. That means Russia has to refuse to negotiate. And Putin can't agree to any kind of negotiation or ceasefire so long as Ukraine controls pre-war Russian territory.
