if the attack isn't real, you don't want Russia knowing very much about European Air Defense

thats for the public, and why we aren't hearing about red lines. Can't have the Russian people know they may actually be effected or their conscripted kids caught in the fighting

@kaizersoze2606 of course most were, most were drones. The point of drones isn't to hit targets, it's to cheaply occupy air defense. Shooting them down costs more than launching them, and defense systems targetting drones aren't targetting the missiles that actually did make it through to the air base.

Lol, don't worry everyone, look at the guys user name, he DEFINITELY isn't a russian troll 😂😂

@no_rubbernecking Okay, again, I see your points relevance. But has Latvia been invaded? Are it's people being killed and infrastructure destroyed? NATO is a defensive alliance, not an attack at the first justification alliance. IMO nothing has happened that justifyies a retaliation, and using anti air defenses would only provide information to Russia.

Ya not everything is iron dome lol.

European countries can absolutely shoot whatever they want down, the concern is that if Russia reacts will NATO countries defend.

It might be true you can't have multiple parties realistically run for President, but Congress could easily absorb more parties.

@markraftis there are no "best drones". The best drones are the cheapest ones. All the drone has to be is armed so that it HAS to be shot down, which costs Israel a lot more than launching the drone, and reduced the ability to hit more expensive missiles.
3
@lovingpeace9715 I was. They hit targets on an Israeli air base. I read that as "we are not looking to escalate, but we launch a large enough attack at modest cost to overwhelm your defense and hit our targets".
3
@markcleaver6573 it wasn't 300 missiles. Many of those were drones, and they are expected to be shot down. The warning was that Iran can get past Israeli defenses.

A lot of these comments are talking down Iran for so many being shot down, but it has to be remembered that is the battle doctrine; Russia does the same. Big waves of drone to occupy anti air systems and cost the enemy much more expensive missiles, and fewer missile attacks to hit targets. Iran hit targets. If they launched another 100 missiles, would 100 more get through? No. But a lot more would. Once you saturate anti air defenses, each incremental missile much more likely to get through. This attack was just to demonstrate Iran can saturate the defenses cheaply.

@no_rubbernecking I understand you're point, but I don't think anyone is actually concerned with a single drone flying briefly over Romania before returning to international waters. It's not a genuine risk to security in any form. If a dozen drines at once were ignored, I think you would have a stronger point. But at the time being I think not using anti air defense is the wise decision.

As long as Ukraine holds ground in Russia, Putin can't agree to a ceasefire. This will mean Russia will refuse to negotiate, and that will keep American aid flowing to Ukraine.

@ghostlightx9005 yes and now refugees fleeing will spread the word across russia. it will be a major moral blow and blow to Putin's legitimacy in Russia. I'm only saying Putin is trying to postpone that in the hopes this is a raid or can be pushed back before the people of Western Russia notice a tangible impact.

@no_rubbernecking hmm, the two comments of yours I see are one stating you were referring to Latvia, and an earlier one saying Russia was testing Nato resolve not defense. Both are visible to me now. I'm certain not suggesting NATO should ignore Russia massing military force on Latvia's border's (not that Russia has the troops). But that is not what has occured. My point is that a single drone is not a provocation. They may not know what a single drone will do, but you can state what it can't do, and it can't create a strategic blow. Again, a group of drones representing a clear attack is is a different matter. But a single drone looks to me like a test of NATO's Baltic defenses (or an accident) more than an attack.
