In 1969 the Perkin Elmer Corporation was working on research and development for a space-based laser which would later come to be known as the Star Wars system of Defense in the late 1970s. These space-based lasers were supposed to be able to shoot down icbms in Flight once they are above the atmosphere.

100 years ago it was possible to have 6 months supply of food in one's home because people were able to afford a home. Now the government takes everyone's home when they raise the taxes so high that people can't afford to keep the homes. So so much for keeping 6 months food supply. Americans today can only keep what they can put in a backpack.

Russia has over 7,000 icbms. Even if two thousand of them make it to US Cellular it's game over for the whole planet.

@chrisharris1522 I hadn't heard anything like that. And if we had the capability to shoot them down and the Russian's did launch, Russia would be nonexistent today.

@Anonymous Bosch the only practical use would be space based. Shooting the missile during its boost phase as it emerges from the atmosphere. The power need only last microseconds. Like the electronic flash on a camera emitting hundreds of watts in a few microseconds, yet powered by AA batteries. Solar power could be stored in large capacitors or Lion batteries to provide that pulse power needed to fire a LASER.
