I remember in April of I think 2021 the shocking Advent of the $38 2x4 at home depot. Shocking because back in 1966 when I built my house I paid 37 cents for lumber like that and it was much better quality lumber.

6% mortgage is pretty reasonable when you consider that back when I bought a house in 1961 the mortgage rate was 8 1/2 per cent.

I just priced out the lumber to add a 6 by 8 ft extension to my garden shed it's going to cost me close to $1,000.

In four to six weeks there won't be any Lumber because there won't be any truckers delivering Lumber because diesel will be up around $10 a gallon.

I built some framework out of a few two by fours and two by sixes for some solar panels. The lumber cost me $989! Two years ago that much Lumber would have cost me about a hundred bucks.

@DIYwithDave monetary debasement is the problem. The fed prints paper, the bankers get first benefit before the markets adjust to the flood of new dollars and the result is profit for the ones running the ponzi scheme and lost value for the rest of us. Since 1913, the Fed has stolen 95% of our wealth as a nation, in the form of fiat money printing, causing inflation.

@Richard-zc1cj that's quite a lot!

Maybe super would might solve some of the housing problems in tornado alley. It seems they need a way to build houses 10 times stronger than contractors currently building. Although I think the problem is more with the fact that they use staples instead of screws and lag bolts to hold houses together.
