The problem is that some people just want to be left alone but the government seems to inflict violence on everybody that they disagree with.

@RayRayWasAGoodBoy the problem is "whose law and whose order?"

@RayRayWasAGoodBoy You're either looking over your shoulder for the occassional bandit, or you're looking over your shoulder for the tax man's SWAT team. I'd prefer to be up against some rag-tag bandits than an organized military powered government with basically unlimited ammo and weapons to use against its own subjects/serfs.

@therevolutionwillnotbeyoutubed Japan is probably the last bastion of civilization, but there are cracks appearing. Sure beats Chitcago any day of the week though! I used to walk around Kamata at night, no fears.

@RayRayWasAGoodBoy When property taxes exceed your income, that puts a target on your back. That was a major reason why I chose to move to western (rural) Japan-- the taxes are 1/20th what I paid in the US and with 3X the house and twice the land.

@LisaAnn777 laws are there to protect the interests of the State and their wealthy co-conspirators.

@wildmouse5888 that's a specific incident. There IS a growing rift between the government that wants to control people and people who want to be left alone. It's true that isn't likely the case with this person. He's probably a dead-ender who realized the new world economy offers no opportunities for him, so he threw his life away, while at the same time trying to send a message to the overlords.

@andrewbui8295 Exactly. America is over. The number of stupid people outnumbers those with common sense. At least Japan has a long tradition of civility. That civility passed the acid test on 3/11.

@purplevincent4454 The birth rate plummets because the Japanese, unlike Americans, understand that if they can't afford to raise children they should not have them. In the US, they just go on welfare. The Japanese still have sensibility about this. The Yakuza is pretty much out of business in Japan. The Japanese government cracked down on them aggressively in the past decade and they are a shadow of what they used to be. It's true that youngsters are sensing that they have limited opportunity. It's a problem in any country where a central bank controls all the money supply.
