  1. The risk is worth the reward. We spend trillions on defence and useless wars and squander billions on political vanity projects. We are explorers as a species and the tech spin offs from a Mars mission would be massive. Lets think big, bold and do it. There are risks, but sailing, flying, driving, even cycling and walking have risks. When you compare these to radiation risks in space they become less significant relatively.

  2. The thing many forget is that OS and other software have got more and more massive over the decades. Back then with limited memory and CPU power meant really efficient programming. The resources now are so massive it is less important.

  3. Well explained. This is taught at high school physics in the UK. The deniers and sceptics clearly didnt study or werent listening during class. We did it in class using alpha and beta sources, a gieger counter and various materials from tin foil, paper, lead and polymer sheets to measure the shielding effect. Alpha radiation is stopped by tin foil....
