Clearly Trump doesnt ..and never did..understand that tarrifs are NOT a tax on foreign countries products but a tax on imported goods paid for by US citizens and companies. This drives up inflation and typically starts a tit for tat trade war with countries like China and trading blocs like the EU putting tariffs on US goods, cutting US exports. The fact that the attendees applauded is insane.
