@justinneill5003 yes..its seems weird to me as well. I am a skipper and have been sailing the med for years and you always plan ahead for the weather and best shelter. He stayed out in an exposed anchorage when the forecast was bad.

A lifting keel is lowered when the sails are up to counterbalance the force of the wind acting on the sails and mast and not “in rough conditions” as you state.
