Its a great smoke screen and mind trick to bamboozle the uneducated that socialism =communism. The truth is that American republican conservatism is built to rig the system in favour of the uber rich top 0.1% Western socialism is about making a fair and balanced society to the benefit of all. In practical terms it means access the fair healthcare for all, education and a reasonable cost, fair taxation and more opportunity for all based on your ability and hard work and not just what family you were born into or how you managed to grift and lobby your way to the top.
