  3.  @annarboriter  to be fair I never went to uni so wouldnt have noticed this stuff but I do remember the golliwog character getting removed from Robinson jars when I was younger and thinking wtf. If we didnt have social media average Joe like me wouldnt even be aware of this stuff. The reason why I didnt think this was an issue here was because I grew up with black people and while there was the odd racist it was nothing like what is happening now. The tone online has changed from what it was ten years ago. Maybe it was because a friend had said online America has been like this for 20 years so I just assumed we were late to the game.

Someone who grew up with black people since the early 90s and I've had a black friend get offended by white people using it, Ive seen black people not be offended at a white friend use it, I had a black guy ask me to use it in the bedroom, up until 2010 and beyond we were still using that word in the club when rhyming the lyrics. I've got it written on old Fbk posts from song lyrics or quotes going back maybe 5 years ago. So that could literally have been me getting done by the police for that by people who dont understand the culture.
