@gelou9680 their own people dont know the history behind the hairstyles. Because it wasnt relevant. I know ad I've done afro hairdressing for decades. They never mentioned the history. Wasnt an issue.

@kali7906 I dont think black people are colonizing western culture though. Western culture isnt being eroded because of someone box braiding? It's an addition like any other acts cultural appropriation.

@aja342 this

It's just a new social media whinge. Nobody cared about this pre-2017ish.
1
@lindamonay1442 nope. It's not disrespectful if some people sees it that way. Its subjective opinion. That can never be fact.
1
@lindamonay1442 disrespectful to them". Yoh speak as if it's the whole group. It isnt. Therefore its subjective and not and can never be a fact
1
@lindamonay1442 box braids are not automatically seen badly. That's rubbish. I'm a white woman who does afro hairdressing and have for 30 years. Are you Gen Z or something? You cannot speak for a whole group of people.
1
@lindamonay1442 "white Americans dont have a culture"????Wow! You've been listening to too many racists. Utter brainwash
1
@kEiLa white people often face racism over wearing black hairstyles. By people like you.
1
@jojo4813 nothing wrong with other races doing their own box braids. This is utter insanity. In a white afro hairdresser. People really need to lay off the internet as its brainwashing them.
1
@Mari-sv9is but black people dont always get bashed for wearing these hairstyles..that's demonstrably false and other races do get based for wearing them like when black people bash them and day they cant wear them. Both are bad imo. People need to stop being racist and discriminatory
1
@Ilovecheesecakebaby how are you comparing people wearing box braids to colonialism? That's wild.
1
@Ilovecheesecakebaby literally does not matter what type the hair is. Anyone can wear box braids. I braid white womens hair. Have done for 30 years

@Mark Jones literally. This CA thing didnt appear until 5 years ago in the mainstream and the furthest back I could find it in acadamia was 2010. Academia is a bed of piss. CRT and the like come from.the same school of thought and most qualifications arent worth the toilet paper they're written on. Everyone makes other cultures their own (actual def of CA). How that became a bad thing is beyond me. Majority of cases it's not stolen, it's been mutually shared. These wokesters are the real.racists.
1
@breezybxrbie3087 box braids can be on any hair..been braiding white womens hair for 30 years 🤷♀️
1
@kali7906 what had colonisation got to do with CA? Stop conflating the two.
1
@jonathanxavier2026 having a few fringe racists scream appropriation doesnt erase all those black people who couldnt give a toss. They outnumber you guys. And CA isnt stealing.
1
@kali7906 CA as in cultural appropriation.
1
@kali7906 you said CA is colonization. White people adopting another culture isnt forcing their culture onto black people so it appeared you were implying black people were trying to colonize white people being that it was black culture being proliferated to which I disagreed as it wasnt being forced on us. I'm well aware of what colonization is. But white people arent colonizing others by adopting their ways. That's the opposite of colonization. Black peoples' culture is being spread and maintained.

@rosean374 LV collabed with Mexican artists on a trunk item he was selling. So that's likely why it had Mexican-influenced designs. None of which were plagurised from any particular artist thus were free to be utilised. Same with Zara. The item was their design so they were correct in that respect. The logo would have been influenced from a culture and not an actual designer so again it's not theft. We all culturally take on others things. And theres nothing wrong with that. It's how civilisation evolve to become great and how we keep ideas alive. People need to stop conflating cultural influence with plagurism. Its become a very insidious accusation levelled at others in a bid to discriminate them from practising other cultures such as other races wearing canerow or using others languages. Its xenophobic.
1
@kali7906 well colonization has nothing to do with someone adopting other cultural practices. So it's a moot point. We all appropriate so I dont know why anyone would complain about others doing it. Do you wear your hair in buns or ponytails? That's Greek. Peoppe need to get a life because I grew up with black people and not one of them out of the literal thousands of black people I personally know gave a crap. Neither did any of the celebs. This is a ridiculous trend that started on social media because people wanted to sound intelligent and it's one of the dumbest things to come out of the internet.
1
@Melina-xk9gj I grew up doing afro-hairdressing and it isnt considered necessary to take the culture seriously or know the roots. We just saw it as a hairstyle like any other, black people included. There was no importance placed on it. I did afro-hairdressing for others and on myself almost 30 years now. The only thing black people ever said to me was "your hair looks nice, can you do mine for me". Noone told me to make sure I knew the history or any of that. It's like if someone asked you to do their nails. It's considered the same. No significance or importance beyond it being hairstyle. I dont know of any black people prior to 2017ish who think that way, personally or in media. Dont let the internet brainwash you.
1
@breezybxrbie3087 white privilege doesnt exist.
1
Nothing. It's the same thing. If you appropriate something it's because you like it. People assume appropriation is always done wrongfully or via theft when that's not possible unless it's from a small tribe where all members can disagree to it. Otherwise with larger cultures usually a large portion are more than fine with sharing their culture.
