@محمودعمراناقبال noone has to respect something they dont believe in. Kidnapping women against their will is not a good tradition. Its abuse and takes away their personal autonomy. What do you mean by contest upon? Value is subjective. Usefulness to whom? How about she decides her own usefulness in society. Maybe she might want to be single and devote her life to other good causes of which have nothing to do with serving a man. "One who comes first"? So she has no choice in the matter about who she marries? She cannot pick a good husband? Someone useless may decide to kidnap her because he cannot get a woman any other way because he has nothing to offer a woman. Then she is forced to marry him because he kidnapped her first? It isnt down to him. That isnt love. He doesnt even know her or seem to care about the kind of person she is. Shouldnt people get to know each other so she can decide if he is worth marrying? Why should he make all the decision when she doesnt even know him. Imagine if the tradition was really ugly women get to kidnap young men without a choice. I honestly see this as men being extremely entitled and wanting what they set their eyes on without any regard for what the woman wants or likes.

Exactly. These men know they have no prospects and no women will want them so they uphold this tradition. The first mum saying the guy was eccentric and uneducated.
