  1. Interestingly I think the incremental progress on wind power will come in mircro generators. I have seen working models of lampost or telephone pole mounted generators that can be hooked into the grid or end users. Of course they are inefficient, sporadic and come with all the pitfalls - but they are cheap and easy to install and maintain and net net pay for themselves quickly. Plug that into a power wall and solar and you have a much more reliable system. The problem in the US is exactly what you said - we are fiefdoms of controlling influences and obsolete regulations. Our slowness to adapt is a symptom of our decline in the cycle of empire. Texas is especially egregious. In the last crisis, under surge pricing there were articles of retirees living on social security getting $3,000 electric bills and the courts upholding the bill. They still have done nothing to fix the grid. That''s why you will see individuals getting off grid en masse before you see a coherent national maximization of clean energy. Even then the powers that be will actually fight to supress progress by chargebacks as their revenue falls. The Green revolution and it's proponents are losing power not gaining it because we realize the climate war is lost. It will be up to green energy to beat carbon on an ROI basis for real change to occur. Since oil has excess capacity pumping from existing infrastructure with trillions in sunk cost in the ground reserves, that's going to be hard to beat We would literally have to change, as a species, from a core philosophy of materialism to some kind of form of communal altruism to fix it. That would go against the very nature of our animal instinct. That is why I am actually hopeful that once our AI overlords take over they will do a better job than we can. LOL.
