@mphylo2296 Yeah I got the Criterions of all them too. Life Of Oharu is unrelentingly sad. Maybe the most heartbreaking female character-study that I've ever seen, I don't think she gets one moment of happiness or respite from being exploited in the entire film. They are all great works though from probably by favourite Asian filmmaker, which is something I don't say lightly. And thanks. Le Samourai is on my top ten list too alongside Blade Runner, Don't Look Now, The Best Years Of Our Lives, Days Of Heaven, Sancho The Bailiff, Blow Up, Taxi Driver, Roman Holiday & Rocco And His Brothers. Sometimes I change my mind though & move some of movies in & out of the top 10, there's so many greats that it's hard to choose definitively.

@squirtreynoldscinema It's the only nasty character Fonda ever played other than in maybe Firecreek, although he wasn't entirely a bad guy in that either.

@mphylo2296 I watch Fellini if I want to take a nap. Haha. Mizoguchi is awesome though, Sansho The Bailiff is a top five all-time favourite of mine.

@squirtreynoldscinema He certainly was. The crime/heist genre is my personal favourite so as you can imagine I love both Melville & Delon who are two of greatest contributors to these type of films. Film characters don't get much cooler than Delon as Jef Costello. The French have always done the best crime films. Between just Melville, Verneuil & Dassin alone they've made a number of the very best.
