Not so mysterious! Professor Kelly Redmond, a climatologist with the Desert Research Institute in Reno, has looked at wind formations in those mountains seeking answers. He told KNPR's State of Nevada that much of the problem in the Sierra Nevada is because of the wind. The mountain range runs almost perpendicular to the Jet Stream, that along with their shape, which is wedge-like, creates wild wind conditions. The winds are liftet smoothly on the west side and then have a very rapid decent with a tremendous amount of turbulence. A small plane, which must fly lower than commercial jets and doesn't have much power, can easily get caught in the airflow. It's believed that is what happened to adventurer and billionaire Steve Fossett, an experienced aviator, whose small plane went missing after takeoff from Nevada in 2007.

Mikael Gaiason Ha ha ha! Well, I also don't know much about flying, but what you say makes perfect sense. The unknown professor, who admittedly sounded as such do, a little in over his head, however reached the same conclusion: Stay out...

Mikael Gaiason Well, I'm thankful for your insights and do share your dislike of the ocean of nonsense flooding the social media. I have a slightly different approach, which I'm sticking with: I reference abbreviations of articles I can find on subjects of interest to get feedback such as yours. That works for me. Asking questions gets more answers than I'm willing to sift through. I also think you should read his article before dismissing it wholesale. Reality is rarely mono-causal. Cheers!

Mikael Gaiason Agreed, but notice I didn't say I got my information by making statements and getting feedback, I merely said I prefer that to asking questions. But I can break my habits easily: What's your take on the uss nimitz tic tac incident of 2004 – if you've noticed it?

Only sensible explanation imo!
