I was thinking: What would it take to motivate me to go into politics or become a civil servant, and quickly concluded that only the attempt to stop those in power now, could motivate me the slightest, and I don’t believe it possible to get anywhere in those two trades and still remain a decent fellow human. The only possible way I see towards better politicians would be to stop paying them more than compensation for lost income so that they would have to work like everyone else. Parliaments don’t need to sit there and talk-talk-talk. They can meet twice yearly and make necessary adjustments and convene extra only for emergencies. We’d get representatives who knew reality first hand and they be governing, not to make carriers or fortunes, but as a duty of honor. This would bring about quite a different breed of people and solve most of our current problems… And you know they won’t comply with this change voluntarily…
