Pilots fighting the MCAS because they didn't understand or weren't taught properly was the cause of both crashes...

stimproid Absolutely not! First, the planes would lower the nose while increasing power during the critical fase of takeoff, which in itself, when completely unexpected, is horrifying. Second, the MCAS can't be turned off, it's an built in, electronic compensation for the engine placement below the verical rotation axe, which creates a nose lift during acceleration.

stimproid You need to have someone explain this fifteen times? That's what caused the problem! The pilots can compensate but can't turn off the MCAS and after a slight delay, it comes right back, dipping the nose if engine power is increased, because the engines on the Max 8 lifts the nose. Now stop the nonsense, please! The pilots – with very little time to react – weren't advised of this feature, let alone trained to handle it and would therefore react as they were taught to in the older types.

stimproid Yes, of course you can turn off the auto trim, but that isn't the first thing you think of coming from other types. Especially not in an alarming situation during takeoff. And it may make the problem manageable, but still doesn't turn of the MCAS entirely.

stimproid There were two accidents with the same scenario. The MCAS can still reduce engine power. The only preparation delivered – as clearly stated by the pilot – was a 15 minute iPad lecture. This is negligence on Boing's part. I'm out!
