  1. Well, the EU is a trade union, but the trials against Apple and Google interest me – was that about privacy infringements? in that case I think the EU and the courts are doing great. These tech giants have been riding roughshod over user’s rights worse and worse the last 10 years and the only way they’ll ever relent is if infringements cost them dearly!

No, I looked it up: Apple had an arrangement with Ireland which allowed them to operate in Europe free of corporate tax, which can never be legal, but it took 10 years and two appeals to finish the case and apple was ordered to pay 13 trillion euro (10 years of back taxes). Wether this was with or without interest, is unclear, but initially interest was demanded as well… But Google was – after appeals – found in violation of antitrust laws and fined 2.4 billion euros.
