I heard something interesting yesterday from a Danish theater director, who'd been in North Korea as part of a mutual cultur exchange program: His many, long term contacts to ordinary citizens provided an angle I hadn't considered: Everything any minister and even the president does or says must go through a lengthy process of evaluation by the military generals!
Nobody, no matter how highly positioned in North Korean government, may visit or receive visitors from any foreign state, including the British and German foreign minister (SOS). This prohibition includes all official foreign representatives or relations.
It dawned on me that the presidential family most likely are hostages in a golden cage of a military dictatorship, which can only remain in power by maintaining the illusion that North Korea is in a state of constant war-alert.
So maybe the focus ought be shifted from Kim Jong Un to his puppet masters and a completely different approach attempted by western politicians?
Also inside the isolated nation, only a very few know anything about these military restrictions. People generally think the president omnipotent and appointed by God - or directly descended from God...
The only reason it was disclosed, was that the Danish director had dealings with those few art directors, who'd already been approved by the president, but yet were still blocked by the military brass from exercising any of the planned exchanges...
