  1. Evolution is normally taken to mean genetic selection of DNA genes over generations. But there’s not enough generations in 12 years to evolve much that way.  What we have here is the result of the much faster working epigenetics, a switch to more suitable, phenotypic traits already present in the form of dormant or suppressed genes.
