  3. Melani Wright A crow will lie flat down on a sunny pavement or sandy ant-highway, puff out its feathers and stay there for quite a while with the ants crawling all over it. Only when they come too close to its eyes, will it shake its head to avoid contact. It's the strangest sight. The first time I saw this behavior, I thought the crow was injured, lying flat, with feathers in disarray and wings spread out. Then I saw it picking up ants with the beak and literary placing them deep within the feathers. As I understand it's supposed to remove parasites?
