Horse meat is too sweet and too soft, but very cheap. I tried cooking with it as a struggling student, but didn’t like it. Absinth is ok, but is it really dangerous? I never felt anything different but the regular effect of alcohol…

@puellanivis I think so too, but some campaign must’ve been up in the late 50s: I grew up in Denmark and you wouldn’t believe the horror stories we children heard about absinth — from the adults, that is. It was also frequently part of fictional novels in my childhood, like if a character drank absinth, he was probably the villain or at least not to be trusted. Do you know if the worm sometimes found in a bottle of tequila, is it not, makes any reference to the "wormwood in absinth"?

@vertraeumtemoewe There’s no law against it in Scandinavia and occasionally it is available. I tried it, but didn’t like it. It was very soft and sweet.

@puellanivis 😂👍🏼

@christal2641 Really? How do you know this?

@emppulina Yes, I know, but why are you telling me this? All I said was that I tried horse meat and decidedly didn’t like it. But I also don’t much care for deer meat or rabbit either…

@puellanivis Yes, it contains fennel, anise, and the leaves and flowers of wormwood (otherwise known as Artemisia absinthium) and may be as strong as 89% alcohol. And wormwood really is an hallucinogenic and contains other toxins as well. The extreme percentage of alcohol ensures that the active substances from the wormwood are fully extracted. But if you have more than 1 or 2 shots in the occasional festive evening, you’re begging for trouble – and all alcoholics and drug addicts are. They persue a life strategy of suppressing problems instead of dealing with them. Heck! If you drink enough, you can even damage your health with beer. 😊

@vertraeumtemoewe I didn’t say it was common.

@viktoriakohler1224 Does it? The flippant answer would be: „Isn’t everything very expensive in Scandinavia?“ But I don’t indulge often enough to make any real comparison.

@viktoriakohler1224 Stories…

@viktoriakohler1224 Vacationing we tend to overindulge what’s unusual and affordable and discipline is lax on holidays.

@viktoriakohler1224 Bad form, I agree. If it was a business trip, the bus driver might make a complaint that could have serious consequences. I’m out, bye…
