@ wrong - US bases in European nations are under US control and are leased to the US. Let Germany try to force the US military out of Germany and see how far that goes. Furthermore, the US has always paid the lion‘s share in NATO and continues to do so to this day, so let’s see who suffers more should NATO be disbanded. Here’s a question for you: why don’t France and Germany deploy their troops to the Ukraine? Or better yet, why hasn’t any European NATO Country done so? It’s been 11 years since Russia took Crimea so what is Europe waiting for? You deployed and saw zero combat because the US was again, doing the fighting, while your nation sent troops to provide ”logistical support“ which is a fancy way of sitting on your arse while the US again, paid for and provided all operational support. Your country’s presence there was to show the World a ”United Front“ but we know who took the losses and paid - hint: it wasn’t your country. Had it not been for NATO since 1949 formed and headed by the US, your simple simon arse would be speaking fluent Russian and your parents as well. Your nation along with most in Europe sat on their fat side and never increased their defense budgets and look at them now! All crying because Uncle Sam isn’t letting the children continue to suckle on the teat!🤣. Where’s the EU right now? Shouldn’t your nation‘s leader, be mobilizing its military and deploying troops to the Ukraine? I’m sure the EU President 4 star General Von Der ”Lying“ should have this under control!! 🤣🤣. An EU bureaucrat who’s Job it is to advise EU member states on economical matters like her predecessor the EEC did, is not a head of state; therefore, she’s out of place nor is she a defense Secretary, yet, here she is acting like one - this is exactly why both the US and Russia excluded her as heads of state should speak directly to each other and not some Brussels Bureaucrat who’s done nothing but wasted time. Why didn’t she accompany Zelensky to Washington DC? Because Trump would have relegated her to speak with her equivalent for the US which is the US Secretary of Commerce and Economic Development. You don’t see this man traipsing around the US and Europe battle crying for the Ukraine do you? It’s not his place and it’s not Von der Lying’s place either. She found this out the hard way with the Chinese Premier, Turkey’s President and other nations as well who put her in her place. What’s ironic is that Vin der Lying was previously the German Defense Minister and during her tenure, she increased the defens budget by ZERO percent - zero! Yet, here she is talking about supporting the Ukraine while expecting the US to continue providing the logistical and operational support after the U.S. has already done so totaling $120 billion dollars - more than any EU/ NATO nation alone and equally as much as the entire EU states combined. Zelensky left without signing any deals - let’s see who that hurts the most - give it one to two weeks and see how that goes for him and the Ukraine. Wait! I forgot! Now that the US appears to be “out of the game,” this gives the EU member states AND European NATO members the green light to immediately deploy their troops to the Ukraine and militarily engage Russia if I’m not mistaken. Like you said, these nations have excellent transportation networks and logistics already in place to do this right? Those were your words if I recall correctly. So when can we expect these troops in the Ukraine?
I’ll let you answer that. I’m certain that your nation’s 2% contribution to its defense budget will go a long way, despite the fact that Germany’s GDP is the 4th largest in the World - pathetic. I hope the U.S. shuts down NATO and leave Europe - I’d give it one year before European nations turn on each other and try to drag the US into another world war like it did previously hence why US troops are in Europe now, built Western Europe through the Marshall Plan created NATO and ensured peace remained in Europe for the last 60 years. I’m more than certain Europe can manage fine without the U.S. according to you right? Let’s see how that goes🤣 let me know how that goes for your country👍👍👍

@cyan_oxy6734 You cannot simply close down all US bases in nations that are dependent on those bases for economics. There are towns in Germany that if the US bases withdraw, they are done. Europe allowed itself to become wholly dependent on the US Defense Strategy visa vie NATO. The US by right after saving Europe's arse in WW1, WW2 and the Cold War has a right to be there as it was Europe that pleaded for the the US to become entangled in European Affairs and not the other way around. Up to the Balkan Conflict, it was the US that brokere that cease-fire by forcing Serbia into negotiations - again, where was Europe then?
Under the Bush and Obama Administrations, Europe was told to beef up their defenses, but to no avail. Now look where they are. The EU for example has NO BUSINESS involved in defense issues or wars. The EU was not designed to fill in for NATO or any defense posturing - the EU is an economic organization primarily based on intertwining the economies of EU members for trade - Why Ursula Von Der Leyden is trapsing around like a 4 star General at defense meetings is beyond me as she's no head of state, no president, premier, prime-minister or chancellor of ANY nation let alone an equivalent to a Secretary of State or Defense. She is however in the US equivalent to the Secretay of Commerce as well as in the UK for Secretary of Commerce and Trade; she is an ADVISOR to the heads of state for economic/trade issues - not for war and defense positioning. This was made clear to her when she visited Africa and was ignored by Uganda's PM, also in Turkey with President Erdogan and in China where the Chinese Premier basically sent her to his Finance Minister for further discussions - the Chinese Premier was 100% correct - if a head of state wants to discuss issues with his/her's equal, they talk directly and not to some EU President for Economic Affairs. What's really odd is that Von Der Leyden WAS the former Secretary of Defense for Germany and during her tenure there, she increased the defense budge by ZERO Percent - that's right...ZERO. She should be the last one screaming about a United Europe to militarily assist the Ukraine, one would think.
Turkey has been held back from joining the EU by Germany and France - they cite "Human Rights" violations as the cuase. What's rather hypocritical are the Human Rights Violations against the Roma in Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary, who have seen and continue to see some of the worst human rights violations - yet all 3 nations were quickly allowed to join the EU - go figure. The real reason why Germany and France don't want Turkey in the EU is of Turkey's population (comparable to Germany 85 million) the Turkish GDP as the 6th largest in Europe and it's military being only 2nd to the USA in NATO; nicely armed and trained.
By the inclusion of Turkey, Germany and France would be forced to share power in the EU by voice and budget which neither nation wants and that's the REAL reason Turkey is not in the EU today. However, the EU and Germany in particular have no issue of the 400,000 Turkish immigrants in Berlin alone, and over 3 million i Germany mainly doing jobs that the average German won't do. Currently the majority of immigrants (not refugees), in Germany are from those countries (Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, and countries of the former Yugoslavia) who's young skilled labor force leave to Germany thus depleting their own nation's workforce. In short, Germany is the financial and economic master of the EU - if Germany ever were to quit the the EU, the EU would cease to exist in a month.
Not much of a union now is it? Yet Germany, the World's 4th largest GDP spends less than 2% of its budget on defense but is angry along with the rest of EU and NATO countries that the US, who has repeatedly informed them to invest more in defense,is to blame??? The Ukraine is vulnerable, not by the fault of the USA, but by the fault of European nation's indecisive actions since 2014 when Russia invaded the Crimea. Where has Europe been since then? Oh yes, waiting for Uncle Sam to handle those affairs instead of their own.
Who lost? The Ukraine as it has to pay for peace. Russia too, although many don't want to see it, has also lost as it didn't achieve it's initial goal - the incorporation of the Ukraine back into Russia. Furthermore Russia lost two neighbors to NATO and is now flanked by NATO from Finland to the Baltics and Turkey to the south; not a good place to be if a conventional war ever broke out. I guess we'll have to wait and see what will happen next. It's all about business and the average citizen bears the brunt of the mighty.

@Weerknuffelbeer WRONG! The US provide the most aid and arms to the Ukraine totalling over $120 billion dollars - don't you even try it with that lie. Let the US pull out of Europe RIGHT NOW and you'll be speaking Russian by the end of next month.
How does Humanitarian Aid help a military defeat it's enemy again??? Exactly, it doesn't nor does "limited" economic aid hence why the EU is scrambling now to "continue to support the Ukraine." I don't see Zelensky begging Starmer, Macron or Scholz for money, but rather on the US Doorsteps in which Zelensky openly stated "without the US, we will lose the war." End of story
Speaking of aid, when are European nations going to deploy their troops to the Ukraine? If the Ukraine was so well funded and militarily armed by Europe alone, why would the Ukraine EVEN be talking to the USA about ending the war? Why is Zelensky in the USA right now? He's not a tourist I assure you.
In short, the USA holds the card for Ukraine's survivial and future, not Europe and no amount of European meetings is going to change that. Europe was told by the Bush, Obama and now Trump Administration to beef up their defense spending and invest more in their militaries - they didn't listen and now have no equal power to counter a Russian military - wow! now there's a newsflash!
Ursula Von Der leyen WAS Germany's former Defense Minister and during her tenure there, she raised the defense budget ZERO times, that's right ZERO. Now here she is rallying like a 4 start general wannabe to guarantee Ukraine's freedom - that was easy to do when someone else is writing you a check and taking care of the problem for you. Now let's see the EU handle the Ukraine on it's own.

@Weerknuffelbeer Nice try but useless statistics over an irrelevent timespan is not a comparison of how much the US paid, sacrificed and STILL pays the lion share of conflicts that have occurred since WW2 up to the Ukraine Conflcit equalling WW1, WW2, Cold War Vietnam, Balkan Conflict, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Denmark and Canada fall out automatically as they were NOT involved in Vietnam, Balkan Conflict or Cold War skirmishes.
The UK (with the Falklands) can claim the highest next in line to the USA as it has been involved in ALL US conflicts except Vietnam - it remains 2. France can fall into the third position but fails on a true count as it's main losses remain in it's formal colonial position in Africa and South America where no conflict has taken place. The French losses in Vietnam were minimal compared to the US there, but as they were two separate conflicts albeit preceding in the timeframe, the US, nevertheless lost more in Vietnam.
What other EU/NATO country has lost more troops, spent more money, financed more 3rd/4th party political actors as sponsors to engage conflicts and paid for the training, supplies, logistics, and military hardware to sustain NATO's operations, and is present on ALL continents - NOT ONE as the US is the only remaining Superpower in the World today. Had the US engaged Russia directly in the Ukraine on a conventional warfare level, it would have taken the US no more than 3-6 months to not only eliminate the russian military fromt the Ukraine, but to neutralize those areas occupied and reestablish the Ukraine's sovereignty -- tell me any other NATO/EU nation that can do that alone - Exactly - the sound of silence feels so sweet. The US outside of the former Soviet Union (lost over 20 million in WW2 alone), is the next nation with the highest loss of life in warfare and no amount of population comparision, or a nation's girth, growth or geographical statistic changes that.
Move along, you're done here.

@ the only goalpost that you constructed was that feeble attempt to portray European nations on an equivalent level of defense responsibilities and costs to that of the U.S. - you not only failed but clearly don’t have the knowledge or experience to merit your position . When you serve your nation for 35 years in NATO for 35 years as a defense attache, deploy 18 months in Iraq, 12 months in Kabul, 1 year in the middle of Australia 15 years in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Turkey, fluent in 4 languages, Masters in Political Science and a former Cryptologic Linguist Intelligence Chief retired Colonel, then you come talk to me about Geopolitics - Until the , take several seats and be quiet
