@kaigray5964 The truck driver was not doing 50mph. He had been stopped for a while and witnessed the protestors blocking the street. So your example is irrelevant. However, in answer to your stupid question: If youre doing 50mph and someone suddenly jumps out into the street, you should do your best to avoid a collision. However, suddenly decelerating at 50mph may be extremely dangerous and (as I said before) you should not take actions that jeopardize your own life.

@thefish1292 I've already addressed this in the 7th comment on this thread in response to @LordFlop. Basically, he most likely could see her since he was stopped a few yards away from the protestors for an extended period.
