@Sheldon Julius Longer endurance sessions also stimulate autophagy, so you get natural rejuvenation

@themosthighvaluemaninthega9048 I'd say finishing a marathon easily gives you greater mental strengh compared to lifting or non endurance sports. The last 10 miles are simply brutal. With lifting only 1 or 2 reps are kind of hard and then the muscle will fail anyway and the pain is over.

Yes, get a metal/glas water bottle and even more important don't store/heat up your food in plastic containers!

@themosthighvaluemaninthega9048 Ok, totally agree. Most endurance athletes have not enough protein in their diet actually to prevent muscle wasting. When I was still an active triathlete I was always aiming at 2.5 grams/kg or 1.25g/lb. T drops once you reach excessive training volumes (say >100 miles running/week).

@kblkbl A lot of what you wrote is the state of knowledge of the 60s and 70s and has since been surpassed. The 2.5g/kg number is pretty much what most Olympic teams and Ironman athletes and pro cyclists go for. It might seem high but as a percentage of caloric intake it isn't. But if you do Irondistance events you will need it to stomach the training load. "I also find it extremely hard to believe any decent enduracne athlete has trouble keeping their muscles from wasting away." See, you "believe". If you had even 1 or 2 years of experience in this area you'd know better.
