  1. You are right and wrong: 1. I agree with your comments on the airline system. 2. You can change your electricity production to renewables like many nations do right now. Additionally, the train has a very low per capita power consumption so it is still relatively green compared to other things. 3. Trains with Diesel engines will not be suitable for fast high speed transport. 4. Taxes on people are ok as long as we get a return in the sense of infrastructure. 5. The Marshall Plan did not really bring the rail system up again, the damages were too big and it took 15 years to repair it. Marshall Plan was mainly political, the money was a drop in the bucket but appreciated. The UK actually received Marshall Aid too; they just didn't use the cash to invest it and used it to pay back some loans to the US. The US economy profited due to vast amounts of defence spending.
