Or how the citizens teeth look
18
People generally don't love to be jailed.
2
German prisons are built (or at least new houses are built) around the idea of normalisation. Most people will get out of prison eventually and it is in the best interest of the state to have them functioning properly in freedom. That means that you don’t completely restrict them.
2
@snpr7749 Then help the victims....
2
In Germany it is.
2
So that you don’t make copies
2
Then why is crime lower than in the US?
1
Correct.
1
Typically a cell has 10 square meters. At least in new blocks. And yes. They can built their own home in their cell. Helps them actually to stay calm. If you live in concrete …
1
They rent those. They pay for them with their own money they earn working
1
There are not that many jihadists in Germany though.
1
Not dissimilar to this
1
They get like 1 Euro an hour (0.75$) for some menial work. They can buy themselves some amenities and even if it is little money it is some money they have after release. 400 guards in total in shifts
1
And yet we pay less money for prisons than Americans.
1
And already the first guy with some racial idiotism
1
What kind of house do you live in?
1
They don't have room service.
1
The most common phrase German prisoners typically say about prison is „it was alright - they treated us decently but it was still prison“. Exactly what we aim for
1
I think this documentary is older.
1
@m.r4841 French prison isn‘t near anywhere so nice
1
Or why the crime rates are lower than in countries with harsh sentences
1
Lol.
1
YOu would change your mind quickly.
1
Let me guess, Alabama has way more prison riots than we Germans do
1
Fun fact - violence against staff in Germany is very rare. Prisoners are mostly calm.
1
Nobody commits a crime to land in prison. Only in America for healthcare
1
So you would want them to be locked up in a dirty cell with rats? We are in the 21st century lady.
1
So you are guarded 24/7 and are subject to regularly drug tests and inspections and you share your living quarters with a dozen guys? If so then this is your decision. We are not a society of torturers.
1
They do not get rewarded bro..... They get rehabilitation and they work, some even outside. But do you honestly think that letting 100 prisoners outside the walls could be a good idea? Or that they are remotely qualified to build stuff?
1
Why do you think so? You are still locked up with your rights to an independent life taken away. No internet, travel, Netflix, nap time fixed… Unemployed live far better lifes than this. And homeless people can get paid housing.
1
If you think they freely advertise their crimes, you are mistaken. KiFis ("kinder Ficker; Children fucker aka pedophiles) are the lowest in hierarchy inside a prison. You do not want to be known as a pedophile in prison.
1
@frankcook9669 What do you think punishment should be? Regular physical punishment? Forced labour?
1
Throwing them into a hole in the ground, is that your idea for justice?
1
@justincase3296 Victims have no say in court to demand justice. Italians have a name for that, it leads to vendetta. Nothing I wanna experience.
1
@justincase3296 We don‘t have victim impact statements in Germany.....
1
@bronacahill6512 They do not get better things than outside... their lives are varefully controlled, little privacy, no money to speak off, loss of social contacts...
1
@bronacahill6512 Brona, can you even read? At no point did he say that was ok. But only a small portion of prisoners are in for sex-related offences and most sit for other reasons, rehab them.
1
They also have no freedom. And once it comes out you were in prison, say goodbye to any career.
1
Crime in Germany is actually not everywhere....
1
They get some money what they earned during prison work and some rehabilitation
1
@MrCrowebobby ANd where did you get this?
1
I think this is the prison for the worst offenders. Many of the prisons are old but refurbished from time to time.
1
None of them is liable to attack them. They aren't treated badly and hence they are way less aggressive.
1
And American prisons are overcrowded and there are regular riots inside and your criminals come in repeatedly for criminal offences.
1
I would rather pay them to go to class and get a degree or some other qualification that they can use to make some honest money and a living instead of the US approach of locking people away and letting them out with no additional work done on them. Prisons are a giant recruitment center in the US.
1
The prison itself isn't dangerous....
1
Absolutely correct.
1
They are supervised. But there is 0 incentive to arm up as a prisoner.
1
Pretty sure you can leave your home anytime you want
1
They land in preventive custody.
1
1. you really don’t want to stay in prison. 2. Preventative detention is for the most dangerous persons. Unreformable people who are too likely to reoffend with violent crimes. Multiple murders, repeat sex offenders etc… quite typically they have reoffended several times before or their crime has been extremely severe. Their punishment has been served but they cannot be released because they are too dangerous. The safety of society depends on them being away from them. They are legally not prisoners anymore; they bring a sacrifice to society and sacrifice their freedom. Hence their treatment differs. They get better accommodations etc… But you don’t want to be there. You have a chance to leave it but rarely is it possible for prisoners to do so. It can mean lockup for the rest of your life
1
This kind of prison system was established way before Angela Merkel even became head of government. But nice of you showing how little you actually know.
1
So you propose that the prisoner lives in a rat infested hellhole and after he comes out is all good again? Trust me, the loss of freedom is good enough for them.
1
No butlers but "offener Vollzug". You get reintegrated into society while serving prison time.
1
To be fair, German prisoners don't get more either.
1
When a prisoner has finished his term but is deemed too dangerous to be released. Such as repeated violent sex offenders. They cannot be allowed to go outside but since they served their term, they need preventive detention.
