Hammer 001 It is more expensive but right now, a CATOBAR system can launch far heavier loads into the sky. Neither does one require an additional turbofan engine in the belly of the aircraft that is just dead weight once in the air. Takes up lots of space for weapons, electronics, fuel. One has to judge what someone wants.

Yemen Steezy wish I could live close to a military airport
1
S400 will not laugh. Neither will Typhoon. Both stand reasonable chance to kill each other
1
And how do you plan to finance it?
1
@PlasticGangsta Because costs have also risen too and taxation has been slashed so the available money for government is less. Most migrants contribute by the way, without having been an expense before they entered the labour market.
1
The EU army is supposed to standardise equipment and fight for common policy. Not a replacement of NATO
1
Sonja Spackenberger Russia has behaved hostile though. Can’t argue that.
1
All paid.
1
But that doesn't mean it can't do both
1
Literally applies to any tank.
1
the EU does not see you as an enemy. Italy and Sweden are on board so they will buy. As for others, that could indeed not be an option when the UK leaves because France, Germany and Spain develop FCAS. I think it could sell to the Middle East.
1
It’s mainly to reduce costs…
1
Annoying B'stard Britain has been involved in European wars for as long as Europe existed
1
EVERARD PISSWIDDLE because they are very good for such missions whereas the UK‘s subs are better at maritime control deep in the atlantic.
1
Nope. There is no such thing as saying it is better because the Typhoon is better in some areas and the Rafale in others. Depends on each nation's needs.
1
@JohnSmith-ts8xp I highly doubt the UK can increase the defense budget any time soon. Not with the tax cuts they promise to keep businesses from leaving the UK in favour for the EU. Lots of Japanese companies announced relocations. @1chish: Trump has often threatened the EU so quid pro quo. Just funny they are both called Donald. By the way, the EU is not NATO and therefore the wrong address for any concerns.
1
@MH-ff6zr Kinda flawed argumentss. The Rafale can carry a lot of stuff but 1.5x the own weight is just a nice term, freighters can do way more. By the way, the EF generates enough lift and has enough power to be able to do the same feat. However the hard points are not certified for it. Typhoon has never been intended to be a nuclear carrier. Germany, Italy and Spain don't even own nukes independently and the UK uses them from their submarines exclusively. Most nations with nukes use missiles. France, the US and Russia are probably the only ones that use them on planes. Passive stealth is nothing the Rafale has either. Both have some frontal RCS reduction but not stealthy as an F35 for example. For Spectra, unless you have been a member of the development team, I highly doubt you and I can make accurate guesses regarding the capabilities. DRFM capabilities are something the EF enjoys too though. Swiss Army chose ultimately no plane. Next evaluation is coming up.

@1chish The Dassault / Airbus project would definitely be an interesting project. They want to design a 6th gen plane so try to surpass the Americans or pull parity. And if I remember correctly, this is a cooperation between Germany, Spain, France and not an EU project. Dassault has 50+ years of experience designing delta winged jets. We will speak again in 20 years. The UK left us, not we them. Should we remain best friends after you basically jumped the ship and now want to retain all advantages regarding trade?
1
Don't use them as artillery without adequate protection in urban areas then.
1
It is not easy to say which is the best jet in the world. As for the costs, you are aware that those are estimates and in no way are the end price that a costumer pays? The Rafale is not 5th gen, the Typhoon isn't either. And nope, the AASM series is very expensive.
1
I think the UK will order soon. I know Germany will
1
It will not be a declaration of war. Merely joining a military allianc
1
@thewomble1509 Piece ammo = Low rate of fire. Not compatible with other NATO tanks. Not to mention they don't produce this ammo anymore because it is obsolete. C2 will not be able to drive faster in the forward direction either. It is very immobile compared to others.
1
the womble Am not an expert but basic facts I can point out. A rifled gun is obsolete. Ammo is no longer produced.
1
Probably not but then most cannot. But I doubt Brimstone will take it out at all settings.
1
@hardwired548 Any source for that claim?
1
So not true but OK. France enjoys a very capable air force with Rafales (on par with Typhoon overall) and Mirage for the bombings. They currently have a superior naval aviation. The French would not be useless at all.

proton2020 depends on altitude
1
@jon_3453 No Manpad can ever hope to kill a Eurofighter, an F35 or Su-35
1
@shingosshojiopoulos6608 Nah, air defense allows you to defend against missiles and aircraft. Aircraft kill other aircraft and can constantly harass you from the sky.
1
@JamesVDBosch I wouldn't use HEAT because that does little splash damage. I would use a classic HE grenade. But an aircraft takes out bunkers et cetera.
1
@JamesVDBosch HEAT is basically a copper lining formed by explosives into a superfast jet. There isn't much explosive power behind the copper and the copper itself travels in a line. It will punch a hole in almost any house but a nice HE grenade will do this cheaper and perhaps better.
