It‘s a school lesson. Sports cannot just be running and playing. Swimming is important for a well-rounded sports education.

They can do what they like but school is mandatory for everyone

Swimming lessons are part of school. If she misses school for any reason other than sick leave; that’s not ok. Attending classes is mandatory in Germany.

No such thing here
2
If you are regularly missing classes they will demand you go to a state-employed doctor who cannot just give out exemptions like a normal doctor

Germany has a long history of public swimming - including under conservative leadership

user-zj2qw1mo7b The swimming lessons are mandatory as school is mandatory here. There is swimwear for her. Nobody bats an eye if she wears a modest swimsuit… Well - most would rather love here

user-zj2qw1mo7b No. Education is a right and a duty. Physical education belongs to that too. It is mandatory to attend maths, physics and German lessons, so is PE. And with PE comes gymnastics, games and eventually, the basics of swimming. You can’t opt out because German law trumps religion. Freedom of religion doesn’t mean freedom from education. Germany is quite accommodating to cases like her.

Nobody forces her to undress. This ain’t a nude area
1
Yes - because this is a school event and attendance at school is mandatory in Germany.

@شعلة-ل1ن It is in Germany.

Religious law doesn’t stand above German laws. Religious freedoms do not supercede German laws. School attendance is mandatory, swimming is part of school lessons. She can cover with a Burkini etc but her religious views do not trump the laws of the land.

Because this is Germany where we don’t have sex segregation. And neither are people naked.
1
No she cannot. School is mandatory in Germany and swimming classes are mandatory. Her religious freedom ends here.
1
Because classes are mandatory in Germany. This is a school event. If she doesn’t want to swim in her free time that is her choice but if she wants to avoid disciplinary actions from school she will have to go. Easy concept

@merykejt5541 They can too. But unlike doctors who have their own private practice, state-employed doctors, also called „Amtsarzt“ are used only when officials suspect cheating. Those doctors first duty is objective neutrality. While bound by the same confidentiality laws that others are, an Amtsarzt cannot give false statements out (at least not knowingly) as many processes depend on their ruling. So an Amtsarzt will see right through the rouse.

How? Religious freedom is guaranteed here. But religious freedom is not an excuse for everythibg

Classes are mandatory, outfit is not
