  2.  @steinwaldmadchen  The AF 1 doesn't carry a nuclear button. That button is not existing. The President always travels with a bag known as the nuclear football. In there are plans, the go-codes and a secure telephone. He can communicate with his staff, especially the National Security council and his security advisor. Should he decide to attack, he would read his codes identifying him as POTUS and select the neccessary go-code for a plan (lets say go code 101 to attack Teheran). No need to push a button.

  5. My best flight experiences where on board an A340-600 HGW. Such a great machine, shame that airlines preferred the 777 (it is too loud)

  10. There are 2 planes that Airbus produces that have 4 engines. The A340 cannot be acquired new and the A380 is too large. For political reasons, a German chancellor cannot fly American. And the fact that engines today are very safe helps too.

Merkel and Co are very public figures who have made a lot of controversial decisions that many people would take vengance for. So no, they aren't bullshit. Neither would it be cheaper to rent an aircraft regularly and book it all.

  16. The 787-10 doesn't have the range and the 777-8 doesn't even physically exist as of yet. They are delayed 6 years with the 777-9 variant as it is.

  18.  @23merlino  Probably the temperature differences in Qatar exacerbated the issue. 60 degrees in the sun and then the sand… aircraft can’t really deal with those conditions without regular checks.

  23. Because there are significant drawbacks to your suggestions. 1) These politicians have a security problem. People like Merkel, Jinping, Putin, Trump, they need protection from nutters. 2) They never travel with only a few select people. There is a whole bunch of staff aboard and often a delegation of business managers (they pay for tickets), it is logistically cheaper and easier to hole them around the world in one plane in one go. 3) Communications: They require encrypted communication at all times with a military headquarter or must otherwise be available. 4) To many places, airlines don't fly.

  35. Theoretically yes but the A350-1000 is already not in high demand and any stretch would not be either. Just by looking at the 777X; there are only 334 orders in 9 years. Last order in March 2019. Super large planes aren‘t in demand

  50. Wouldn't be feasable. Too much empty space they would carry around. A tanker jet purely uses the kerosine it stores in its tanks. Flying an A380 would mean you carry an entire upper deck without much use in a war zone.
