  2.  @Sundara229  It is expensive but not "that" expensive. That would be the price in the US or Europe. Things can be much cheaper in Lebanon plus you don't have to purchase highest efficiency modules. Lebanese typically use some 2300 KWh/ year. Assume that people will use a lot more electricity and say that they need 3000. So in order to have electricity they would need 30 square meters and some batteries. That won't be 40k in Lebanon. Make it 10-20 max. Still an awful lot of money for Lebanese but then they have electricity and don't need to buy non-existant petrol for dollars they don't have. Lebanon should have diversified energy decades ago. Made a deal with Jordan - solar energy from Jordan for drinking water in Lebanon.

  6. What embargo? You mean the EU military goods embargo? Because that is the only embargo that the EU has on Lebanon. Anything else like medicines can be purchased.

  7. Actually solar energy is rapidly becoming cheap. And as a bonus, once you have installed a panel on your roof you have no further costs. You are not dependent on oil prices and exchange rates anymore. I'd rather spend 1000 Dollars on a few panels and some batteries than buy old fashioned gas. Especially if I were Lebanese.

  11. The Middle East does have some of the largest oil reserves. Unfortunately they aren't evenly spread. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Libya, Algeria; those nations have oil reserves. But nations like Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan; those nations don't have or only have marginal oil reserves. Still, they aren't all that poor. Sure, they couldn't become so super rich but with good governance they still have a decent enough quality of life if properly managed.
