Nigeria and some coastal African nations will have other foods that can be substituted. But Tunisia, Egypt and other north Africa countries as well as countries like Somalia and Sudan depend on foreign cereals to survive. Egypt for example cannot feed its population. Egypt has like 2% arable land and 100 million people all wanting to eat. They also cannot afford to purchase wheat at world market price forever and they are the largest importers of wheat in the world. So yes, Northern Africa is severely affected by the wheat price. Personally I am more worried about countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh though which now have to purchase LNG at much higher prices.

Russia has done colonialism in Asia... Just read about their empire.

The EU did nothing of that sort. That was France and Britain with input from Sweden. Leave the rest of us out there. Either way, I remember how glad many Libyans were when Ghaddafi was gone. It's not as if there wasn't an uprising ...

They don't have everything... Otherwise they would be much more economically advanced.

We have no need for Lebensraum...

1. Relatively low soil quality which reduces yields. 2. Subsistence farming leading to inefficiencies in the production of food. 3. Low usage of fertilisers and machines to increase yields per person. 4. Rain-dependent irrigation which has become increasingly unstable reducing crop yields. 5. Massive population growth that outgrew production growth. Nope, colonialism is not always the answer.

@de-sh109 No country is free from foreign influences; didn't stop Asia to develop and engage in much tighter trade relations with the Western world.

1. Yes, they mined the port for good reason. 2. Shipping weapons wasn't in the deal but no ship has approached Odessa in weeks. 3. Attacking the port nit even a day after an agreement was signed just buried it. Who would send their ships into a warzone?

So genius that he now got NATO 50 miles from St. Petersburg...

Africa would be smart and just stay out, as most countries in Africa have done.

Ukrainians don't want to become Russians though. Hence they still fight 6 months in. They continue to resist - that should tell you that there is genuine resistance in the population to the idea of Russian occupation.

Lol what? Slavery was ended by the British in the early 19th century. Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 abolished the institution of slavery in the entire empire. Nothing to do with Russia... Interestingly, it's Africans (Mauretania and Libya) who enslave people nowadays. Anyway, it's not as if the West didn't help Africa at all after colonialism ended...

Ukraine can't supply it through the eastern front. There are no large harbours under their control and in any case, the grain is stored in Odessa.

@tayikolla6205 Africans tend to prefer migration to Europe over migration to Russia...
1
@tayikolla6205 So apparently they want to live with rainbow loving Europeans more than with the good Russians… I wonder why. Anyhow, I don’t understand why Africans of all people with centuries of discrimination against them want to jump on the wagon to discriminate others based on sexuality.
1
@tayikolla6205 The most free country in northern Africa isn‘t a particularly hard achievement. Either way, those mass protests didn’t come out of nowhere. Nobody wanted to get rid of those goodies; but they wanted to get rid of Ghaddafi for the most part. There wouldn’t have been such an uprising if people were content. Hindsight is always easier.

Ah, because we trust the US we are puppets... Lol. How do you arrive at your 85% conclusion?
1
@moussa8512 Since when did Ukraine took part in Syria, Iraq, Libya?
1
You only have the Russian word which I don't particularly trust. The US hasn't snuck anything into the port because no vessel actually approached it as of yet.

Thing is, Ukraine got the A+ magic fairy soil to grow their products in. This is, and I am not overstating it, the best soil in the world. Rich in nutrients, adequately watered and tempered, this is just perfect for many cereals. If Ukraine were to invest into cutting edge farming technology they could raise the harvest higher still. But yes, food security is urgently needed not just in Africa but in other countries. It doesn't have to be fancy food but food. Something so you don't starve.
1
@jmmbuthia Sure, the land was extremely unfairly distributed but the way they distributed it was even worse. When a net food producers becomes an importer something hasn't gone right. Gold standard is rubbish. There is a reason why it was abandoned a long time ago.

@tayikolla6205 Ukraine is still fighting. If you think Russia wanted a 6 months war in Ukraine you are delusional. It is a phyrric victory for Ukraine. But they still continue to fight.
1
@tayikolla6205 Russia didn’t want to fight this way. They envisioned a quick strike to decapitate the government and install a marionette system to do their bidding. Why they keep fighting? Because they don’t want to live in Russia. They want to be free. They are Ukrainians, not Russians and they want to live in their own state apparently. They had a big referendum in the 90s over it.

1. The mines are there because Russia attacked Ukraine. This wouldn't be an issue without the war... 2. There are no sanctions on the exports of either Russian or Ukrainian fertilisers or agricultural products.
