Selling it crystallises that (lack of) value, whereas keeping it and running it into the ground (for how long?) amortises the purchases price over the life of the vehicle, literally. If that gives you an acceptable cost per annum, you've won. If not, don't do it again.

As an accountant, I can say that the most difficult part of formulating a budget is getting the sales forecast as near reality as possible, for production volumes, cash-flow and selling prices, etc., all hinge on a limiting factor. I hope egg production keeps pace, as a lot will find its way onto executives' faces in time.
