Post-WW2 mis-investment (into a socialist, welfare state instead of industrial renewal) commited UK to its continuing decline, re-inforced again in July 2024 . . .

* net immigration * It's not about 'net' figures, nor even about 'gross' figures, it's simply about total 'churn', the sum of both incomings and outgoings. That is what is changing UK demography and doing it ever faster each year as well.

Alas, the problems were not recognised, our understanding of disability too low. These days such a problem seems to be self-inflicted. @TheLucanicLord

I'm not forgetting those years, of world-wide economic downturn and great hardship. Return to the gold standard could have been helpful, but the great depression blew away previously conventional methodology, so it wasn't. Hard times they were, but not 'austerity' as such. @CuriousCrow-mp4cx

@davidyoung9561 For those who can discern, national sell-out is wider and deeper than can ever be imagined. Socialism - the money runs out, eventually; it always does.
