  3.  @Vincent89297  Those "few thousand PoWs" were our troops, not to be written off as collateral damage. Their relatives were voters back home too! Those "200,000 civilians" were not civilians, they were enemy workers, contributing mightily to the war effort. In both cities, the military presence was very heavy. Many there were in uniform. Saving Allied lives was the name of the game. Judge 1945 by the imperatives of the time, not by 21st century 'snowflake / SJW" ideas. PS My parents were in a heavily-bombed city in the UK, mother working, father in the RAF.

  4.  @Vincent89297  They were military targets with geological attributes of interest. No such thing as 'civilians' in total war - we learnt that in England 1940/41.
