* Sure, the car doesn't have any emissions once it's been built * Maybe so, but the power plant generating the electricity does!

@supercamiful It will become more difficult, but not impossible. There are some excellent parts-recycling firms already out there, with stores systems as good as any OE supplier. I can foresee growth in their activities and a resurgence of small-scale manufacturing [re-manufacture?] for used components. Specialists will emerge to modify vehicles to run with less tech than now. Back to simpler days of old!

Twenty years ago, I drove from San Fran to DC in a hired car - took a week. Try doing that in an EV . . .

@SmokinPaul I'm happy that you enjoyed a safe trip in your [expensive] car, with no recharge problems. What happens when EVs are as numerous as i/c vehicles? Will yours do C2C 3,500 miles in a week, as my i/c car did?

@SmokinPaul Indeed, appropriately. Steam > electric > diesel trains too; ice vehicles brought big benefits - EVs won't. Not Luddism, just practicalities [presuming personal travel is 'allowed' in future . . .].

@SmokinPaul I like to see optimism, even that as ill-founded as yours.

@SmokinPaul I'm up on current tech, thank you, but way ahead of you on practicalities, capacity planning and provision. EVs are for people with more money than sense; Joe and Jo Public will not be buying in on it. Money talks . . .

@SmokinPaul I'm an accountant, one who has seen a lot of bad ideas put into practice. The real long-run costs of EVs will exceed that of ice vehicles [subsidies only distort the numbers; they make no real difference to the costs, only the perceived impact]. Perhaps it takes a trained mind to see this? Not all 'disruptive technologies' succeed, long term. One has only to look at electronics over the last forty years for examples. Good luck with your car - you're on a learning curve, even if you neither know nor accept that.
