  5.  @madscientist9990  After the defeat of the Jewish revolt (AD 70), Rome re-named those lands "Palestina", in an (ultimately futile) effort to eliminate Judaism. Population of Jerusalem had been massacred.

Let's also remember the time before Israeli independence, the capture and hanging of two British army sergeants, bombing of King David hotel, and many other terrorist acts of The Stern Gang, Irgun, etc., against UK forces simply doing their jobs in that mandate country, post dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, post the Balfour Declaration. Confused, or what . . . ?
