  1. Not a 'Stirling Short' but a Short Stirling. Shorts was an aircraft builder, the Stirling [a Scottish city] a 4-engine aeroplane.

  2. The Germans did have 4-engine aircraft [e.g. FW Condor], but relatively few of them , and no 'strategic bombing' mindset.
