According to The Daily Beast, a recently released documentary titled "A Storm Foretold" examines Roger Stone's relationship with Donald Trump before and after the 2020 election. The documentary includes a segment where Stone is inadvertently captured on a hot mic discussing his influence over Trump throughout their long-standing association.
The segment begins with a speech Stone delivered in October 2019 at Trump's Doral golf club in Florida. It then contrasts this speech with Stone's candid remarks on the hot mic.
During the 2019 speech to a crowd of Trump supporters, Stone praised Trump's independence, describing him as a force of nature who cannot be controlled or manipulated. Stone hailed him as one of the greatest presidents since Abraham Lincoln.
The documentary then cuts to Stone speaking privately to someone, unaware of the microphone, where he shares his true thoughts about Trump.
"With a 40-year record, I've been able to persuade the big man to act in his own best interest. He's not an easy person to deal with. It's complicated," Stone admits. "He resents any suggestion that he is managed or directed."
Stone presents a hypothetical scenario he might encounter as Trump's adviser, outlining a conversation where he reminisces about a memorable speech Trump delivered to a massive crowd.
"You remember that night in Buffalo? The speech you gave? The place went crazy, and you said XYZ. It was one of the best lines," Stone suggests, hypothetically speaking to Trump. "Even if he never said it, it doesn't matter. It's time-consuming, but it works. I've been doing it for 30 years."
Filmmaker Christoffer Guldbrandsen, speaking to The Daily Beast, believes Stone forgot he was wearing a microphone during these candid moments.
"These are the kind of slip-ups," Guldbrandsen commented. "I think he had forgotten that he was wearing a mic. I know he had forgotten because the next morning, he was really anxious about what I had recorded."
The documentary premiered recently in Denmark but has yet to be released in the United States.
