However, due to the state-by-state nature of the Electoral College system, Trump received more electoral votes and thus won the presidency. Specifically, the final vote tally showed Hillary Clinton receiving 65,853,514 votes (48.2%) compared to Donald Trump's 62,984,828 votes (46.1%). This gave Clinton a popular vote advantage of 2,868,686 votes.
