  1. There are reports that Kevin McCarthy has given in on the "motion to vacate" clause in order to secure votes he needs to be Speaker -- he had said he would NEVER do this. It means that a small number of votes can bring a no-confidence motion to the floor to boot the Speaker.

  3. Here's my real take on Kevin McCarthy: Nobody likes him, and nobody trusts him. He has no ideology, and no values beyond naked ambition. So - if he becomes Speaker, the GOP caucus will be in instant disarray. If he doesn't become Speaker, my Schadenfreude will be off the hook.
