Yes and no. The treaty of Sevres would have granted Kurds a Kurdistan, only if they promised their alligiance to France and England (would have been a smart choice). However, the turks objected and refused because of their new found nationalism. They rebelled, and the Kurds were tricked fighting for the ottoman empire (Kurds were extremly religious back then, better to be part of islamic ottomans then christian Brits was the idea). They fought and won. Then ataturk came and forced a new deal, treaty of loussiane. This would give the turks the choice of granting Kurds a country (obviously a no). The Brits and French then went and made deals with the Arabs to form Syria and Iraq. Iran was also formed with this treaty, as well as Saudi Arabia and many other countries. And turkey was formed along them. They were pretty modern and secular too back then, not like today. So in a way, Islam kept them for having a country. Only the rest (Turks and Arabs) were far removed from islam so they might as well have chosen for England. Like the great general Sellahadin, who gave all his wealth to widows of enemies and the poor in the name of islam and honour, the Kurds did the same. A poor choice, seeing what a dictator Ataturk and the Arabs were.
