We were weaker than the colonial soldiers was due to the emperor's decision to close the doors to the outside world so we didn't have a clue what the advancements of gun powder and its use took place during that period. Also the use of guns and gunpowder was restricted and development pretty much stopped due to the emperor's fear of the tech getting into the civilian population and used against the crown during uprising. So when the west came with their much more advanced muskets and cannons China stood no chance. The irony was that China was beatened and humiliated by the very invention that could've made China unstoppable had the emperor did not made the decisions that he did back then. That's why we call it the 100yrs of HUMILIATIONS handed to us by the west which included the US, England and France a long with Indians and other smaller western nations. China will never again allow such events to take place ever again even if it means fighting down to the last Chinese in the world and take our enemies with us before we will surrender. As a Chinese I'm very impressed with your knowledge of ancient Chinese history which is no doubt due to your careful study and research on this topic.
